Lourdes Beneria, economist and collaborator of the Geography and Gender research group, will be Honorary Doctor of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) from the end of November 2022.
A pioneer in the incorporation of the gender perspective in economic analysis, she has contributed to laying the foundations of feminist economics as a current of economic thought. Her studies on women’s unpaid work and the informal economy have led to changes in the System of National Accounts. Work on the unequal impact of structural adjustment policies on men and women also highlighted the need for gender mainstreaming in development policies.
