International Preconference of the Gender and Geography Commission

On 14 and 15 July 2022, the Research Group on Geography and Gender organised the international pre-conference of the Commission on Gender and Geography for the centenary of the International Geographical Union (18-22 July 2022, Paris, France) in the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (UAB).

The aim of this pre-conference was to provide a forum for the exchange of different knowledge, ideas and experiences in various international contexts, and it was a success in terms of participation and enrichment of current lines of research.

The different sessions organised showcased the struggles and contributions, from the first generation of feminist geographers in the creation of the Commission on Gender and Geography to current lines of research, and stimulated debate and discussion on different critical, feminist and intersectional research perspectives.

During the pre-conference the book in honour of Janice Monk entitled ‘Bridging Worlds- Building Feminist Geographies: Essays in Honour of Janice Monk’ was also announced and presented. The volume has been published in Routledge’s International Studies of Women and Place series, and brings together over 40 feminist geographers and geographies from the international network that Janice Monk built.
