Dwelling in Motion. City Project and Migrations

PPCEL Workshop, 30 d’agost al 10 de Setembre de 2018 – Università degli studi di Sassari. Dipartamento di Architettura, design e urbanística. Alghero.

El taller es va centrar en les dinàmiques urbanes, socials i econòmiques que es deriven de la injustícia espacial i la segregació urbana a quatre ciutats africanes: Abidjan, Bamako, Tunis, Benin.

El projecte, com a eina de planificació, va ajudar a comprendre les formes de vida i a examinar la realitat de diverses situacions urbanes i tractar d’entendre les dinàmiques que afecten als seu habitants. L’objectiu principal del taller va ser suggerir diferents modalitats d’habitatge (espacial, temporal, en transició), diferents formes d’arrelament i perfils peculiars de la població urbana.

The workshop will be oriented following 5 main inspiring ideas:

  • The emerging values of the city limits as an analytical and projectual laboratory for rethinking urban policies and strategies defined on a metropolitan basis.
  • The potentialities of the existent empty spaces (urban and metropolitan voids) located in between both cities for hosting urban collective uses and redefining the typology and role of facilities when conceived in a metropolitan basis despite the fact of their urban location.
  • The opportunity represented by new issues such as ‘metropolitan agriculture’ or ‘climate-proof urban policies’ to incorporate new urban functions to be shared by the two cities in specific locations in the urban limit fringe in-between.
  • The public capability of landscape (‘landscape publicness’) in terms of a new value to be identified regarding the open spaces system in-between cities. In this sense, open spaces will be considered as future catalyst of urban life.
  • The capability of the ‘ordinary landscapes’ characterising the areas in between the two cities as potential containers of new metropolitan uses and activities representing a benefit for both urban areas.
