Maria Dolors Garcia Ramon Prize Vautrin Lud “Nobel of Geography 2016”.

Professor Maria-Dolors Garcia-Ramon was awarded with the Prize Vautrin-Lud “Nobel of Geography 2016” during the Festival International de la Géographie that took place at Saint -Die des Vosgues (France) from the 30th September to the 2nd of October. This honour has been already awarded in 28 occasions but this is only the fourth one given to a woman and the second to a Spanish geographer. Maria-Dolors Garcia-Ramon is currently Emerita Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The Prize recognizes her exemplary academic career as a mentor and researcher. The speeches given during the ceremony refer to her contribution (many books books and articles) in the fields to rural geography, history of geographical thought, urban public spaces in particular in gender geography, a field in which she has been a pioneer in Catalonia and Sapin. Maria-Dolors Garcia-Ramon was also the funding secretary of the International Geographical Union Gender and Geography Comission, and she is a member of the Academia Europaea since 1998. Her career has a marked international character in particular in the US, Latin America and Western Europe.
