Dr. Janice Monk has left us.
Teacher, friend, companion and unconditional support of the Geography and Gender Research Group of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona since its beginnings.
She has been a driving force for Geography and Gender in the world and mentor to several generations of Catalan and international women geographers. She was awarded Honoris Causa by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2013 in recognition of her contribution to the development of geography and gender and social and cultural geography on an international scale, as well as her close and valuable collaboration with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Since the eighties of the twentieth century, Dr. Monk had a relationship of scientific and personal exchange with the Research Group on Geography and Gender through its director, Dr. Maria Dolors Garcia Ramon and the other members. Dr. Garcia Ramon gave the keynote speech introducing Dr. Monk at the investiture ceremony at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts on 16 October 2013.
She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.
